John R Whittles
A tenacious litigator who relishes advocating for clients
John R. Whittles is Board Certified by the Florida Bar as an expert in Business Litigation and Civil Trial Law and past President of the Palm Beach County Bar Association. John practices in commercial litigation, employment law, constitutional law and election law. Prior to founding Mathison Whittles with Stephen S. Mathison, John enjoyed a 14-year relationship with a highly regarded litigation firm in Miami/West Palm Beach — the last seven years as a shareholder in that firm.
John is admitted to practice in all Florida trial and appellate courts and is also admitted in the United States District Court’s Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, the United States Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the U. S. Supreme Court.
A Palm Beach County resident for almost 40 years, John is an active member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association and in 2009 was elected by his peers to serve on that association’s Board of Directors, a position he continues to hold today. John was previously elected to be President of the Palm Beach County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section, an organization in which he previously held every elected officer position. John has served the Palm Beach County Bar Association in various leadership roles, including as Chairperson of the 2010 Bench/Bar Conference and, in 2013-14, as Co-Chairperson of the Committee for Diversity and Inclusion. John is also an alumnus of the Craig S. Barnard American Inn of Court LICV.
In recent years, John has represented a wide variety of clients, including Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, high-tech companies, small businesses, individuals, municipalities, political parties, local elected officials and current members of the U.S. Congress. He has successfully tried many jury cases to verdict and has also tried many non-jury trials, arbitrations and administrative proceedings.
